India Expands E-Visa Access to 88 Entry Points Including Attari Border

India's Ministry of Home Affairs has notified 11 additional international entry points for foreign e-visa holders, bringing the total to 88 designated ports. The expansion, reported by Business Today on August 12, adds the Attari land crossing on the India-Pakistan border alongside new airports at Bhopal and Tirupati. Pakistani passport holders remain excluded from the electronic visa regime.

Port-by-port breakdown

Land ports (13 total). New additions: Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki, Moreh, and Attari (Road). Raxaul, Rupaidiha, and Jogbani were already designated.

Airports (37 total). New additions: Bhopal, Tirupati. Existing roster: Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bhogapuram, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa (Dabolim), Goa (Mopa), Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kannur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai, Port Blair, Pune, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, Varanasi, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam.

Seaports (38 total). Agatti, Alang, Bedi Bandar, Bhavnagar, Calicut, Chennai, Cochin, Cuddalore, Dahej, Dhamra, Haldia, Hazira, Kakinada, Ennore-Kamarajar, Kandla, Karaikal, Kattupalli, Kolkata, Kollam, Krishnapatnam, Mandvi, Mormugao, Mumbai, Mundra, Nagapattinam, New Mangalore, Nhava Sheva, Paradeep, Pipavav, Porbandar, Port Blair, Sikka, Tuna Tekra, Tuticorin, Vallarpadam, Visakhapatnam, Vizhinjam-Kovalam, and Vizhinjam.

Pakistani travellers: status unchanged

Per the Indian visa application portal, holders of Pakistani passports and persons of Pakistani origin cannot use the e-visa system and must apply for a regular visa at an Indian mission. The restriction pre-dates the current notification and remains in force.

Processing and scope

The e-visa covers 17 sub-categories: medical, student, mountaineering, cruise, tourist, transit, group travel, business, and others. Roughly 95% of applications clear within 72 hours. India launched the e-visa in 2014 for 43 nationalities; coverage now extends to 172 countries.

Pre-entry checklist

• Confirm nationality appears on the e-visa eligibility list before booking transport.
• Cross-check the intended port of entry against the updated 88-point roster.
• Submit the application no later than 72 hours before departure; allow buffer time.
• Pakistani passport holders: apply through an Indian mission for a regular visa, not online.
• Carry the printed e-visa approval letter and supporting documentation to the port of entry.
