Navigating India’s 85 Authorized e-Visa Entry Points: A Traveler’s Guide

The total — 36 airports, 38 seaports, and 11 land border crossings — trails the 88 locations announced by India's Ministry of Home Affairs on August 10, when authorities added 11 new points to the e-Visa network. For international visitors, the gap between government announcement and operational list is the immediate planning variable.

The Ministry of Home Affairs table released on August 10 enumerated 37 airports, 38 seaports, and 13 land crossings. The portal figure differs for three documented reasons:

• Darranga (Assam) appears twice in the Ministry table — once among existing land ports and once among the newly added ones. The portal counts it once.
• Attari (Punjab), included in the August 10 announcement, is absent from the portal. The India-Pakistan crossing was closed by Indian authorities on April 23, 2025, following the Pahalgam attack.
• Bhogapuram International Airport (Andhra Pradesh) was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 1, with commercial operations scheduled from August 17, 2026, per operator GMR Airports. It has not yet been added to the portal.

What changed on August 10, 2026

Effective that date, two airports and nine land ports were added to the e-Visa network:

• Airports: Raja Bhoj (Bhopal), Tirupati International.
• Land ports: Agartala (Tripura), Darranga (Assam), Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon (West Bengal), Dawki (Meghalaya), Moreh (Manipur), Attari (Punjab).

The additions do not alter e-Visa eligibility, validity, or category conditions. Travelers must verify that their intended port is on the live portal list before booking.

Operational caveats for travelers

• Pakistani passport holders and persons of Pakistani origin are excluded from the e-Visa facility. A regular visa through an Indian Mission remains the only route.
• Arrival, not departure: e-Visa holders may exit India through any officially authorized immigration checkpoint. The 85-point limit applies only to entry.
• Non-listed arrival points require a regular visa stamped or affixed in the passport, per nationality-specific rules.
• Portal authority: the list is administered by the Bureau of Immigration under the Ministry of Home Affairs, linked to the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. The e-Visa program is currently open to nationals of 174 eligible countries and territories.

The new land ports extend e-Visa access to the northeast and the Bengal border — relevant for visitors combining India with trips to neighboring countries. The two new airports expand regional reach, but as of August 13 neither has independent international flight operations: Tirupati-bound travelers will still need to land at Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, or Mumbai and continue by domestic flight or road.
